Audacity is a popular, free, open-source software used for recording and editing audio. It works on Windows, macOS, and Linux.
β Step 1: Go to the Official Audacity Website
To safely download the latest version of Audacity, always use the official website:

β Step 2: Choose Your Operating System
Once you’re on the homepage:
- Hover over the βDownloadβ tab in the top menu.
- Click on the operating system youβre using:
- Windows β Direct Link
- macOS β Direct Link
- Linux β Direct Link
β Step 3: Download the Installer
On the download page:
- Click the big “Download” button (it will show the version number, e.g., “Audacity 3.5.1 Installer”).
- The file will start downloading automatically.
β Tip: If prompted, choose to Save File.
β Step 4: Install Audacity
πͺ For Windows:
- Double-click the
.exe
file you downloaded. - If prompted, click Yes to allow the app to make changes.
- Choose your language and click OK.
- Follow the on-screen instructions: Click Next > Install > Finish.
π For macOS:
- Double-click the
.dmg
file. - Drag the Audacity icon into your Applications folder.
- Launch Audacity from Applications. If you see a security warning, go to:
- System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General
- Click Open Anyway next to the Audacity message.
β Step 5: Start Using Audacity
Once installed, open Audacity and start recording or editing audio!

Audacity now comes with built-in support for MP3, but if you’re using an older version:
